Vernalis' theory

Carol Vernalis compared camerawork and editing in music videos and films, she discovered that a lot more edits occur in music videos than im films. Here are the 5 most common elements she found:

  • Base track repetition to give video structure
  • The camera moves with the video
  • Transitions used in edits to get audiences attention
  • To make a video more interesting to break the continuity rule in editing 
  • Jump cuts occur very often
